Ok + Location − No staff tables not cleared

Wonderful traditional hotel in a great location. + Great location, lovely room and great price. − Overnight public parking was not easy. Had to be back at the car by 8am to renew the ticket. The online payment system was a joke and didn't work.

+ Cool and solid old building with historical vibe. − The ancient lift was frequently out of use.

Excellent location for the theatre. + Location for visit to the theatre was excellent. Helpful receptionist. − Room carpet and bathroom floor not clean enough. Looked like it needed a good vacuuming - even some precious occupier’s tablet on the floor. Breakfast could have been more ambitious, like a yoghurt maybe? It was ok if you like the full English but not for me. I acknowledge that their breakfast is ‘complimentary’

Great location. Friendly and helpful staff. Just lack of details when cleaning let the stay down. + Location − Room was not that clean. Carpet all along the skirting board around the room was thick with dust. Plastic cover hanging off of something by the door. Net curtain in window was not clean. Room 30.

Amazing location, historic hotel, lovely facilities and clean spacious rooms. + Great location, clean hotel, historic and good facilities. Breakfast was good. − We booked two rooms and they were far away from each other. I would have liked them at least on the same corridor.

A handy location for the Opera House, good for an overnighter. + The staff were friendly. The location is great for the Buxton Opera House and is in central Buxton .Bed was comfy. The hotel is very old so full of character but a bit tired. Food average. − 5 steps up to bathroom - was not aware of this. Room dusty.

Such a shame this hotel is dated and not cleaned well. For the cost the food should be much better. + The comfy beds The location − The room was dusty. Had to request it to be vacuumed as I reacted to the dust, making me wheezy. You could see the dust under the furniture. It was sorted quickly; however going were covered into the bathroom the mirror and light shade were thick with dust. The breakfast wasn’t nice. Bacon grey colour, mushrooms watery and tasteless, sausages grizzly, hash brown wasn’t pleasant with a slimy texture.

Great location and value for money + Great location for the Opera House. Room very nice - large and well fitted. Lovely breakfast. I hope the new owners will give it a facelift now.

Very dissapointing, felt cheated. + Spectacular position in old georgian section of old Buxton town. The building has tremendous character and history. I did like the effort made for the table dressing at breakfast. Handy spa. Prime location for the opera house and pavillion gardens. − Character spoiled by neglect. Incredibly shabby. The entrance hall was dirty, musty smelling with a dirty unkempt carpet and furnishings. very unwelcoming. It established a poor impression straight away. The decoration in the whole hotel was well past its prime, with peeling wallpaper, missing patches, knocked to bits painwork, and damp patches on the ceilings. The rooms were nothing like the photos on Trip advisor, which when we later checked up on were 7 years old. musty old furniture (and I love antique furniture) Nothing was made of the history of the place. The food was appalling, not fresh, not well cooked, poor breakfast selection. No continental option, no sliced meats or cheeses or fresh fruit.…
