Lovely hotel, limited space available if travelling with a dog + Lovely location and a warm welcome. Our room was beautiful - we’d chosen a larger room as we were travelling with our dog. Breakfast had many lovely hot choices as well as the usual buffet items. − Because we were travelling with our dog, there were certain areas we could not go in, the dog couldn’t be left in the room and the only indoor space we could take him was the bar. This became a problem for us when the bar was so loud and busy that our dog couldn’t settle and we couldn’t hear each other across the table as we tried to have our evening meal. We moved outside but there were too many midges. We ended up back in our room by 8.30, having asked if there was anywhere else indoors we could move to and there wasn’t. To be fair, we have had a discussion with the manager and explained the situation. We totally agree that some areas need to be kept dog free but suggest there needs to be some discretion in unusual circumsta…

OK für ein bis zwei Nächte + Das Frühstück war gut und bot eine gute Auswahl an gekochten Speisen. Das Abendessen im sehr schönen Speiseraum war gut. Es gibt eine Bar mit einer ansprechenden Auswahl an Islay Whiskies. Das Personal war sehr freundlich und hilfbereit. Der Garten hinter dem Hotel ist sehr schön angelegt und lädt ein zum Verweilen. − Die Zimmer (z.B. Nr. 15 und 16) sind z.T. recht klein, die Bäder etwas in die Jahre gekommen und die Betten sehr schmal für 2 Personen (französisches Doppelbett: 1,20 breit!). Die Lage ist zwar sehr zentral auf der Insel, aber es gibt außer Natur nicht viel Angebot in der Nähe wie z.B. ein Pub oder ein Laden. Die Luft im Speiseraum war nicht so toll, weil die Abluft der Küche die Gerüche nicht wegbrachte.

+ Gute Lage in der Mitte der Insel. Großes Restaurant/Bar angeschlossen, mit gutem Essen und guter Whisky Auswahl. − Direkt an einer Hauptstraße gelegen. Die Dusche ist leider nicht ganz dicht gewesen und sorgte für eine kleine Überschwemmung im Badezimmer

+ Un hôtel superbe. Classe ,c'est le mot qui convient. Chambre très belle, spacieuse. Éclatante de propreté. Lit très confortable. Le personnel est très sympathique. Le restaurant, bonne cuisine. Petit déjeuner excellent.et copieux. Bien placé pour visiter Islay.

Good accommodation but needs better mattresses. + Location was ideal for the exploring we wanted to do. Breakfast was great. We had dinner there one night and it was very good. − Room and bathroom were small for the price of the room. The bed was extremely uncomfortable. The mattress needed replacing.

Excellent food and location for quick stay on Islay + The Brigend is in a great location as it positioned centrally and you can get to all the locations on the island easily. The hotel is "old-fashioned" and the room was small (double bed, small bathroom with very tiny, low sink, and no modern plugs with USB options. The hotel is right on the main road and doesn't have A/C so there is some traffic noise with window open (our room was on road side). I was worried about bugs coming in since no screen but wasn't an issue luckily. However, for our one night stay it was fine. Food options were excellent - included breakfast had nice continental options and hot food could be ordered also. Dinner in restaurant was outstanding, service was just slow especially to get check as they did seem short-handed, however, it was a Sat. night in high season so they were busy.
