Make sure you are given the correct room, as guests may be sent to the old part of the hotel, where the rooms smell of smoke and the bathrooms are dirty and extremely small. The bathroom was so cramped that I could practically wash my feet while sitting on the toilet. I asked to change rooms, but the whole process took more than an hour. I wasted valuable time moving between rooms, and by the time everything was resolved, I couldn’t find a good restaurant or bar that was still open. Overall, I wasted both my time and money, and the experience was very disappointing.

brilliant + A Characterful and Peaceful Melbourne Hotel I chose this Flinders Street hotel because it wasn’t part of a large chain and offered genuine character. I wanted somewhere peaceful and adult-oriented, away from the noise and screaming children often found in family hotels, and it delivered exactly that. The beautiful architecture, history and ambience made the hotel feel like a step back in time. It had culture, personality and a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere. I particularly appreciated receiving a booklet explaining the history of the building—it added considerably to the experience. − Unfortunately, the initial cleanliness of my room fell short. I found long black hairs in the bedding, marks on the bathroom walls and toothpaste smudges on the glass. The housekeeping team clearly needed to pay greater attention to detail. That said, the hotel’s response was outstanding. As soon as I raised the issue, staff came to clean the room immediately and left a thoughtful …
