comfy stop over stay for long journey + excellent breakfast − next to busy road

Road to noisy at night + Staff polite. Pub area very nice and evening meal very pleasant. − No air con. Very noisy road (earplugs provided did little to reduce sound of fast moving constant traffic). Gluten-free options at breakfast extremely limited and kitchen staff didn’t seem to have much learning or training in this area.

Good value in familiar surroundings. + Good location. Convenient for visiting local haunts. Breakfast Meal deals were good value. − Breakfast waitress spent too long chatting to other other guests rather than concentrating on serving. Bed mattress appeared to be past it's best.

The short time we had there was enjoyable. + Breakfast lovely, good service − Toilet low& seat wobbly and not stay up.

Definitely would not return + Evening bar staff were friendly and helpful, foodservice was very efficient. Food ok - standard chain pub fare. − Biggest problem was the appallingly uncomfortable bed, with a mattress that was very cheap or very old, or quite possibly both. The springs could be felt pushing up as soon as you sat on it, so lying on it was dreadful. No sleep. Then, no fresh air really as window, which only opens about 3 inches anyway, opens directly on to massive fans extracting from the kitchen - noise and smell. (These switched off at 9.30 so not really a factor in lack of sleep.) No staff to speak of except during dinner. In the morning we discovered we were basically locked in overnight - presumably because no staff there. My colleague found a back exit, which hadn’t been pointed out to us, but I tried to use the normal route and encountered locked doors everywhere. In my attempts to get through ( this was 7.30 and the website says breakfast starts at 7.00) I was “h…

ok, but spoilt by an issue that should never have been a problem − A fire alarm activated at 2:20am - totally understand that these things can happen. However, there were no staff present to deal with this. There was a number to call which was tried by several guests and not answered. The guests then had to phone the fire brigade to resolve. There are two main issues with this a) what would have otherwise been an extremely small inconvenience turned into nearly an hour between 2:20am and 3:10am. b) There was no staff present to conduct basic fire safety things like a register of who was and wasn't present. Had there been a real fire, no one would have had any idea of whether guests were stuck inside or not. Raised with the company but they don't appear to be concerned about this.

+ Staff were lovely and friendly − Dog friendly room was so far from the exit

Rubbish and unsafe + Staff were helpful on arrival − Fire alarm woke the whole hotel at 2.30 in the morning. We tried ringing the emergency number provided - in room and on external door - but no reply. Therefore someone rang the fire brigade as that was the only safe option to ensure there was no threat of fire and that we could return to our rooms. *It is unforgiveable and seriously negligent that we were unable to contact any member of staff * I really hope that you are lambasted if not actually prosecuted by the Fire Brigade for this. We will obviously never return and will make sure that as many people as possible know what happened. The room was dark and shabby and the bathroom had mildew all around it and the pillows were uncomfortable - not a happy experience - glad we were only there for 1 night. No staff were present when we left in the morning except one person mopping the foor who just said chuck the key in the box - no thank you or even goodbye! Not the way…

We would stay there again if we’re ever in the area. + Very friendly and helpful staff. All the staff seemed to be very busy and under a lot of pressure, but still found time to deal with our queries. − AI chatbot when trying to contact the Dartbridge Inn by phone.

Great value B&B + The warm welcome. Comfortable bed and great breakfast. − It took a while before we got served at breakfast. This wasn't the servers fault but the fact that only one person was serving breakfast. Once served the service was excellent, it just took time for the server to reach us.

Short staffed but the staff who were available were pleasant. The manager Callum was a great host. + The Property was situated well in South Hams close to Buckfast Abbey and Newton About. − The property is very tired and in need of renovation. The evening meal was not the best, the breakfast was good. The main issue was the road noise which made it difficult to sleep as the Dartbridge Road is the main road through to Totnes and South hams areas. Earplugs were in the room which did help a bit, but it shows it’s not just us that we’re interrupted by the road noise.

the uncleaned spider roomy + nothing − our room was infested with spiders and covered in cobwebs i got a girl that worked there to have a look she couldnt beleive how bad it was so she went for the manager he came back with a feather duster and a lot of attitude not beleiving what i had already shown the girl he said it gets cleaned every day i said not a chance he knocked the dust and spiders down i counted 24 there was no appologising or offering us another room so we got our bags and booked in at the abbey inn round the corner i paid for a room that we never stayed in cause it was so bad
