Good stay + The George is nicely situated in the beautiful town of Mere which is well situated for exploring Somerset and Wiltshire and the surrounding countryside. The lady working was ever so considerate, friendly and helpful

Reasonable + Staff were attentive and polite, food was ok and we were gratefully they decided to provide an evening meal on a Monday (which they don't usually do) due to the great number of guest staying. Beds were comfortable.

It’s the people and the food that did it for me! + It was the food in the restaurant downstairs that made this trip. The best fish I’ve ever had, and with such beautiful nourishing vegetables. It was really what I needed after a long day and work. The room was lovely and just what I needed - a quiet place to rest. Thank you Liam, Matt and the rest of the team who were excellent hosts. The locals are very lovely too and it’s so good that they support this excellent establishment. I hope more local people will recognise the effort the owner and team go through to make The George a great community centred venue.

+ Stayed the night to break up our trip from Kent to Newquay. Nice little quiet pub to say over.

+ The employees at the bar could use some customer service training, and manners. Breakfast was late and the staff were I'll prepared resulting in half cooked bacon. The mattresses were solid and painful to sleep on. Given the history of the Inn, we were of course disappointed. We won't be back.

Nice hotel, in need repair. + Arrived in the evening, staff busy with restaurant service. Showed to room, nice and bright. Shower was average power. Window had small pane of glass missing , covered with piece of plastic, was afraid to open it any further. Breakfast ok, seems strange on a full breakfast there was no sausage.

The shower was not working, no Wi-Fi, no breakfast + My stay at George Inn was the worst hotel experience I've ever had. As a frequent traveller, I rely on basic amenities to function smoothly, but George Inn failed on all fronts. From the start, I was met with chaos during breakfast, with no food available and staff unprepared. Despite this warning sign, I proceeded with my stay, which proved to be a mistake. The room was outdated, with a small TV and tangled curtains that were nearly impossible to close. The shower was unusable—only cold water ran, and when it finally started to warm, it cut off entirely. After reporting this, a staff member admitted there was likely air in the pipes but did nothing to resolve the issue. Adding to the frustration, there was no Wi-Fi, and I had to rely on my mobile data for the entire stay. There was no breakfast in the morning as promised, leaving me to start my workday without a proper meal or shower.

One night only + Goos size and comfortable room. Service in the bar and restaurant was good with plenty of menu choices for our evening meal.

+ Staff were excellent and very helpful. Room was spacious enough for all 4 of us. Ate in restaurant and food was amazing, only small criticism was i think they should ask what guest's would prefer for breakfast as they automatically brought out a cooked breakfast for all of us. Even if only offered, beans or eggs on toast as alternative would have sufficied. Overall would highly recommend this establishment and if ever around the area again would definitely book.

+ The friendly Pauline welcomed us, showing us to our chaming old room (5 centuries old). Perfect for 3 adults with an anexe room for privacy, wonderful full English breakfast and seasonal strawberries.

Great place to stay + Our hosts were incredibly welcoming and couldnt do enough for us. We were treated almost like family. The pub is historic, warm and comfortable. Our room was comfortable - a thoughtful but unusual amenity is two armchairs in the room. Usually someone has to perch on the bed if there are two of you! The breakfast was great. The coffee is fabulous and you can buy a bag of beans or ground to take home, too! I wish them the very best for the future and will return.

Ideal overnight stay + Our family room was spacious with a large bathroom. Nice and quiet. Good communication from host with check in details, very welcoming and accommodating. The hosts went above and beyond to make our stay a good one and a place we would recommend. Great location from which to visit Longleat.

+ this was a stop off for the start of our holiday, we were meant to be going to Salisbury races, but it was abandoned due to heavy rain, never the less it did not stop us enjoying our stay at this beautiful hotel, we had an amazing stay and it was very clean and all the staff were extremely polite and pleasant.

+ Fabulous stay at the George inn. Couldn't have been made to feel more welcome. Love the quirkiness of the pub / hotel. It's a beautiful old building and has rich history. The breakfast is fantastic, our family room was huge, clean and very comfortable. Excellent car park and superbly based to see the gorgeous surroundings. Highly recommend anyone staying here.

+ Was one of the friendliest Inns that we have ever had the pleasure to visit. The staff in the kitchen, the chamber maid Shelly was very meticulously thorough in her work. Would thoroughly recommend this Inn and will return.

Lovely friendly atmosphere + Lovely Friendly atmosphere from the time you walk in the door. Room was very comfortable, clean and cozy. Food was fantastic and good value for money. Very friendly staff, who were always happy to help. Would not hesitate to stay again. Brilliant.

+ The property is quite quirky with uneven floors but has character. Quite a small hotel and choices at breakfast were limited. Vegetarians and people with other dietary requirements not really catered for.
