Not for younger children + I go to Madeira every year and have stayed in many different hotels. This was clean and the staff were all lovely to us and my autistic son. We had a couple of meals here but we know the area so mainly ate out at our favourite places. Breakfast was good lots of selection. Bar food was good too. The reason for the low stars was because the rooms are dated my son was on a roll out bed that was rather tatty. Our shower wasn’t the cleanest. Bathrobes were falling apart really threadbare. Don’t go hear if your children older than 4 and they want to beable to be children and splash play ball in water or have any floating devices. My 9 year old son who is autistic was told by pool staff that the main pool that is saltwater and chlorine you were allowed to use inflatable and balls and jump in etc but this pool was so salty and full of chlorine and chemicals it was burning my hands just sat on the side of the pool I had to run and rinse them under the shower strai…

Fabulous hotel + A pleasant week in a wonderful hotel. Our corner room (328) was a bit smaller than we have been used to here, but compensated by two balconies with fabulous sea and mountain views over Funchal and the harbour. Service and routine meals were as one would expect in a top hotel, but fixing a couple of small niggles would enhance the experience even further. Because the BBC wants maximum viewer reach to command higher advertising rates, they make it incredibly easy and highly cost-effective for global hotel chains to carry the channel. Disappointing therefore not to find BBC World (or indeed CNN) on the huge list of unwatchable channels on the hotel TV. Perhaps one to pursue. Equally disappointing was the house wine – especially the white and the rose. Just home to a glass of supermarket plonk which confirmed my view that your wine by the glass was really not very good. Perhaps the sommelier could be tasked with finding a suitable brand at the right price point. But thes…

+ Wir haben sechs wunderschöne Nächte in diesem Hotel verbracht und hatten ein Familienzimmer mit Meerblick. Unsere Töchter, 14 und 10 Jahre alt, waren ebenfalls begeistert. Vom ersten bis zum letzten Moment war das gesamte Personal äußerst aufmerksam, professionell und freundlich. Das Zimmer war geräumig und für uns als vierköpfige Familie perfekt geeignet. Der Meerblick war einfach atemberaubend. Auch das Essen hat uns sehr überzeugt: Es war sehr gut, fein zubereitet und abwechslungsreich. Insgesamt war es einer der schönsten Urlaube, die wir je erlebt haben. Wir können dieses Hotel von Herzen weiterempfehlen! − Nichts! Es war alles wie im Paradies.

Amazing hotel + Once again amazing stay at cliff bay. Staff are so welcoming, feels like our second home. Food quality is out of this world. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

We had a room with a living room and a bedroom. There was a balcony off of the bedroom and a separate balcony off the li + Everything. The room was fabulous with an amazing view. They even had a Dyson blow dryer. − We ordered room service and the food was not very good. Other than that, our stay was perfect.

Great hotel to reset + A perfect place to rest & reset. Beautiful ocean view, peaceful atmosphere, excellent service, lovely spa, pools and direct access to sea. Everything felt relaxed and effortless. A great choice of restaurants and dining options adds to the overall elevated experience. We felt truly rested and recharged, would definitely come back.

Great hotel for a special occasion + Lovely views, great room. Food was outstanding. Really comfy bed and double doors to keep noise to a minimum. Service was great. And a surprise cake and sparkling wine left in the room for my birthday. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

Funchal visit August 2026 + Our tenth visit to the Cliff Bay Hotel was its usual excellent quality. We will, of course, return again early next year.
