Great hotel with deficiencies in service + Overall it is a great hotel! We loved the pool! The great rooms and also the employees had very friendly, although many of them really lack in English. What is a absolute no-go, is what happened at breakfast! We would really have loved our stay, but such an experience can bring a bad taste into the overall stay.

Quirky get away from the city, but poor execution + It's a shame that it is managed the way it is as it is such a cool thing right outside the city, but there is a few key decisions that blow my mind, but make a big difference. I live in China, so am used to the quirks of Chinese hotels, but was hoping for a little more being a western chain. 1) The pictures showed all the rooms to have balcony, but over half do not and we came prepared to relax on our balcony and look at the lake - wasn't possible. 2) The pool is lakeside, however, they built shrubbery all around the edge of it, so that when you lay by the pool you have no idea you are near the lake. What is the point of that? 3) We had to pre-order all of our drinks from the hotel lobby and have them deliver it paced out because there was no set waiter taking orders by the pool. 4) We had read other reviews, so we were prepared for this, but the only place to get drinks is the beer garden (in the middle of the hotel- no view …

Terrible Food and lousy service + The food was terrible, mostly deep frozen and very tasteless. Even worth was the service in the Crown Plaza. Absolutely not recommendable.

Great for a short get away! + Overall a really enjoyable stay. It’s a great place to stay if you want to get away for a couple of days as there’s nothing close by.

Nice hardware, software needs improvement + Hotel is what you would expect for a four star. Room is a bid dated but clean. Not many guests staying at this hotel mainly due to local area still under heavy development. Designed mainly as a vacation resort. Service needs to be improved. For example, there are many servers in the restaurant (Chinese style), but most of them just stand around. They should take away finished dishes on our table. Also, two of the hotel staff members in their uniform sat down and starting eating next to us. I honestly don't know if this is appropriate. But in all my experiences stay in a hotel (4 star and above), this was the first time. It felt awkward.

+ I have to say my stay at the Crowne Plaza Shanghai Harbor City was subpar. Unfortunately what could have been a great experience was taken away by the low quality and minimal choice of food, bad employee service, nickel-and-diming on hotel services, suspicious vending machines not working forcing you to their high price of drinks (both non alcoholic and alcoholic), bad and smelly A/C. It feels like an old hotel with that dingy smell just handing on by most likely government funding. The architecture is wonderful and the grounds and lake are great. Unfortunately for them there are 100s of other hotels to stay in Shanghai many for the same or better price that are much better than this. It's an hour from the Pudong airport in the opposite direction making this facility around 2 hours away from Shanghai. (FYI you can get to downtown Shanghai in ~7 minutes using their MagLev train from the Pudong airport). My main reason for staying at this facility was for business which was in that ar…

SHANGHAI’S PHENOMENAL LAKESIDE URBAN RESORT! (BEST IHG HOTEL FOR ME) + Lingang, Shanghai, a sub-district on the corner of the city that once was just a lake with large plots of farm fields as you fly over 3000 feet in the air upon landing in Shanghai’s Pudong Airport. As a young child back in 2010, I remembered the times I watched what was undeveloped land on a plane as it hovered by. Now 13 years later, Lingang represents a growing trend of rapid urban transformations in sub-rural areas of China where the economy surrounding the man-made Dishui Lake is represented by big companies moving to Lingang, an Ocean-Themed Amusement Park, Nanhui Agriculture, and an Urban Resort Hub. On the southern island of Dishui Lake sits the InterContinental Shanghai Harbour City, a flower-shaped hotel that reopened earlier this Spring of 2023 after its era of being a Crowne Plaza Hotel. The Australian-Born Veteran Hotelier Matthew Cooper transformed what was an underwhelming hotel from its humble begi…

Best Hotel In ShangHai + Guest Interaction is excellent. A must visit in ShangHai. Special mention to the GM and also with Neo (chief concierge) who helps us as a guide in the hotel. All staff of the hotel are amazing. The view from the veranda was extravagant and the service is friendly. A very memorable and relaxing place.

Perfect and quick escape from the city + The staff is very welcoming and attentive. Each time I had a question, I was met with a happy person willing to help.. The location is far from downtown, so it is great for relaxing…. Because hotel is in an island on the lake, the view is great and gives impression of being in front of the sea… I’ll definitely come again to take a break from the busy city.

Shanghai’s Dying Flower-Shaped Island Hotel + The InterContinental Shanghai Harbour City is one of the signature hotels in the Greater China IHG Network. The once Crowne Plaza turned InterContinental Hotel was once prized as the country’s best island resorts. Located on the southern tip of the Shanghai coast Lingang, it is a hub for Shanghai’s Marine Ports, its growing tourism, and rapidly expanding economy. I had the honor of visiting the hotel in 2023 with what I thought was a low point for them in my first visit. The hotel’s reopening inaugural General Manager who oversaw the hotels renovations, and design of the hotel Matthew Cooper invited me back a month later for a second visit to experience a much improved hotel to Cooper’s vision. You can find my insider review after a quick scroll down on this TripAdvisor account that I wrote about that second visit. Sadly, Matthew left the hotel not too long before this stay that I’m with pure sadness writing about. The soul and spirit in…

The RESURRECTION of Shanghai’s Flower-Shaped Island Hotel!!! + I have written extensively about the InterContinental Shanghai Harbour City on my TripAdvisor account throughout my three stays there. My reviews reflect a mixed experience overall. When the hotel transitioned from Crowne Plaza to InterContinental, the Pre-Opening General Manager, Matthew Cooper, implemented a radical yet, in my opinion, successful transformation. I felt a strong connection to this Flower-Shaped Urban Resort, and my insights as a seasoned guest helped shape the hotel's direction. I've witnessed both progress and setbacks throughout my three reviews. The last time I left the hotel, I saw it as a flower-shaped building that had lost its vitality. My experience there was almost horrifying, as I described in my previous review. It was so unsettling that it left me deeply disturbed by my stay, considering how everything unfolded. Admist the nightmares that I experienced at this hotel, the personal connection a…
