Quiet and ocean + We had a wonderful stay at the hotel. Really quiet and nice place. Directly to the ocean but you cant swim. The pool is very nice!

Lovely experience in Nungwi + We had a lovely few days at Essque Zalu. As some of the comments say the property isn’t as polished as it could be but the staff make up for it. Always happy and interested - they will do all they can for you. We stayed in an ocean suite and it was lovely to hear the waves at night and sit on the deck. Elal in the bar and Mahmood in the restaurant stood out for us. We stayed on a half board basis and both breakfast and lunch had plenty of options and each night the food was different. We also had lunch at the pool on one day and that was a huge portion size. The location is gorgeous but remember beach shoes as there are lots of sea urchins. It is a short walk to some lovely bars and white sandy beach.

Wonderful Stay with Exceptional Staff at Zalu + Wonderful Stay with Exceptional Staff at zalu Hotel (Zanzibar) We really enjoyed our stay at Zalu Hotel in Zanzibar. The absolute highlight was the staff — incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming. They remembered our names and even our preferred seating areas, which made the experience feel very personal. Breakfasts were buffet-style and included, with lots of variety. There were chefs making eggs, crepes, and pancakes to order, along with cereals, breads, and other options. Dinner was also buffet-style, with a different theme each night (Swahili night, pasta bar, and other rotating menus). We found dinner to be a bit hit or miss depending on personal taste, but overall the quality was good. Nightly entertainment was another highlight — lively, fun, and something we really enjoyed, especially having great seats to watch the performances. Beyond disappointed + We were booked to go in December for a family holiday and then this hotel wanted to charge us over R100000 in taxes. We landed up having to cancel our whole holiday. We are still waiting for the refund. The whole experience has been an absolute nightmare. I would definitely not recommend this hotel

DO NOT RECOMMEND! + The disappointment of our whole stay in Zanzibar. The only silverlining about our stay are the beaches in Nungwi and Kendwa. Unfortunately, from even before we arrived, the whole experience with the staff is already disappointing. We were initially staying in Matemwe and decided to head off already to Nungwi, in this hotel, for our extra day. We reached out to the hotel a day before around 3pm through their two numbers in their page to inquire about booking directly with them and sort our rooms since we already have an existing booking for 3nights, this will just be an additional. but we did not get a response until the following day when we were already close to the hotel. By then we already decided to book through booking.com as we couldn’t risk waiting, in case rooms will be sold out. Amazing! Big recommendation! + It was amazing, the room are big and clean, they have a very beautiful and sileance atmosphere. The location is amazing with the view, no near all the markets but little drive with toktok or taxi and tou arraived. The people who work there always with a smile and realy take care of your stay.

Beautiful place but unsuited to travelers wanting to venture beyond the all inclusive on resort stay + The lodgings is comfortable and serene, loved these aspects. We only had breakfast on site and it was fine/good. The gym was not temperature controlled (one AC unit wasn’t working) so unusable due to how hot it was in there. Bar and tour prices were, in my opinion, above not only regional pricing norms but also US pricing for similar services. The organized tours sold were poor value, suggest doing sites on your own with an arranged driver. To our surprise, there was no beachfront for lounging and when we walked the shoreline we were mobbed by “tour operators” and gigolos.

Amazing stay + My husband got me a getaway for my birthday at Essque Zalu , the staff was welcoming and warm from check inn to check out, my room had an amazing view it's very safe to say that I had the best birthday weekend...special thankyou to Maureen for ensuring my stay was unforgettable I will definitely be coming back

A Wonderful Stay Thanks to an Amazing Team + We had a wonderful stay at this hotel. What truly makes this place special is the people who work here. The entire team is warm, attentive, and genuinely caring, which creates a very welcoming atmosphere from the moment you arrive. A special thank you goes to Amina at the reception. She is an outstanding administrator ,professional, kind, and always ready to help with anything you might need. Her attitude and positive energy made our stay even more comfortable and memorable. The hotel itself is beautiful and relaxing, but it’s the staff who make the real difference. You can feel that they truly care about their guests. Because of this experience, we would gladly return again. Highly recommended for anyone who values great hospitality.

Perfect + I like it very much I think it's one of the best hotels in Zanzibar. The staff is also very kind and pleasant. One disadvantage is that the food wasn't that good for a five-star hotel, but I'm satisfied with the view and service.

Best view of Paradise!! + It was great to be back at Essque Zalu after 4 years. The Pool & Jetty is still iconic! Also forgot how spacious the rooms are. Staff friendly and helpull as always. Will be back soon :-)
